Take a look at this personal project by Singapore-based graphic designer
Jonathan Yuen. It consists of what he calls "design narratives" -- simple but
powerful animated vignettes inspired by East Asian ink and wash painting.
Through these narratives, he poetically contemplates his role as a graphic
designer, focusing on the act of quiet and intent observation. It's well-suited
because it's the kind of activity familiar to graphic designers. With each new
project comes a process of observing, researching, and reflecting on the client
and message.
Embracing this early part of the project is invaluable to an inspired finished
product. Yuen uses frogs, birds and fish to make his point: even the most
common subjects eventually reveal their unique qualities and eccentricities.
This is where the possibilities of visual communication come to light.
It's wonderful to see someone celebrate the early stages of the design process
in such a thoughtful way.

Very cool website.. I Had seen it before but never really gotten into its depth .. It's just beautiful and soothing ..
It's a bit of a shame that you need a really hard core computer to watch it .. My box which is a pretty good one had some speed issues especially when scrolling the main drawing .. Or maybe that's a flash issue..
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts on that one .. Great pick :)
Keep the updates less apart man :)
Cheers, Chand
Hi Chand! Yeah, really beautiful.
I didn't have trouble viewing it, but hey, I thought your computer was powerful enough to launch missles... ;-)
Lots of picks coming up. I promise!
What a beautiful website. I love the delicate illustrations with the sprinkling of movement through the butterflies and the frog for example. Yuen creates a mood with his work which is like an oasis of calm, a real gem nestled within the vast world of other graphic designers with hectic flash websites and spaces.
I'm currently studying Yuen as part of a university assignment, comparing to others within his field to identify what creative traits that graphic designers share with fine artists (if any).
This blog spot is very useful and I will be recommending to others to check it out!

Merci Anne-So... ok, je me dépêche lol :-)
Well hello there.... I'm an interior designer and I'm currently working with a client to add artwork to her reception and I think this piece would be perfect. However, i don't know if it is even for sale. Will you please advise me as to how much it is if it is for sale?
Thanks so much...
